Toe Eggs

I recently experienced a case of toe eggs, not to be confused with toe jam or two eggs, but rather my name for the result of a “bicho de pé” making a home IN my big toe!

Following a recent trip out on the rivers and to the planalto, I returned to Santarém and began to experience some interesting pain in my left big toe.  This isn’t surprising since I am constantly hitting my toe on stuff and in one particular case I had stubbed my toe on a submerged log in a lake, so my logical conclusion was that this pain was associated with that incidence.

So I put up with it.  However, after over a week of this not getting better, it was decided that a closer evaluation should be made.  As a result, the diagnosis was a “bicho de pé.”  Luckily the prognosis was good, following a bit of rooting around on my toe and some cleaning with hydrogen peroxide.  Essentially what happened was a little bug dug down in the cuticle of my toe and burrowed into my skin.  At that point the little gal proceeded to lay a sack of eggs and then evacuated.  You can imagine the festering and inflammation from this.
Operating on my toe
So with the help of a needle and some tweezers and my fiancé, we  began to operate and remove the eggs.  Well, we didn’t even realize it was eggs until after the procedure commenced.  Twenty minutes later it was all cleaned up.  Two days Eggs!!!later, it feels like a million bucks and hopefully in a few more days I won’t  even notice it was there.

So here’s to no more toe eggs…

But while it’s easy to question why God would put such a creature here that does this to us, or flies, or mosquitoes, or any other seemingly annoying creature, I know why.  Because even the “bichos de pé” praise Him!  Psalm 128 reads as follows, “Praise the Lord from the earth…creeping things and flying birds!”

Relieved,
JAE

Psalm 148 (ESV)

1 Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord from the heavens; praise him in the heights! 2 Praise him, all his angels; praise him, all his hosts! 3 Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars! 4 Praise him, you highest heavens, and you waters above the heavens! 5 Let them praise the name of the Lord! For he commanded and they were created. 6 And he established them forever and ever; he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away. 7 Praise the Lord from the earth, you great sea creatures and all deeps, 8 fire and hail, snow and mist, stormy wind fulfilling his word! 9 Mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars! 10 Beasts and all livestock, creeping things and flying birds! 11 Kings of the earth and all peoples, princes and all rulers of the earth! 12 Young men and maidens together, old men and children! 13 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted; his majesty is above earth and heaven. 14 He has raised up a horn for his people, praise for all his saints, for the people of Israel who are near to him. Praise the Lord!
