When was the Nativity?

I don't know about you, but I was always under the impression that the nativity was between 1 BC and 1 AD.  Well, actually, it is more likely that the Christ child was born in 5 BC.  Interesting?  But why would that surprise me?  There is lots to consider, even how the "star of Bethlehem" fits in astrological records, the darkness on the day of the crucifixion, the taxation recorded in Luke, the magi and their trip, the reign of various other leaders, political records and Pilot's actions during the crucifixion, and even Luke's statement of Jesus being "about 30."

If you enjoy reading academic papers and seeing how biblical accounts align with other historical accounts, take a look at Paul Maier's paper here.
