SIDE NOTE: Speaking of gear shifting, I was just reminded of a story. The was a man back around home, perhaps still living but I'm not sure, that went by the nickname "Turd." One could question how such a creative nickname came about. Cruel friends? Innovative older brother? Nope. When his family would be bailing hay in the summertime, he always rode the rack, but it seemed that the driver never went quite fast enough, keeping the tractor in second gear. So when his patience ran out, and with the help of a little speech impediment, he would kindly yell up to the driver "Throw 'er into turd!"
Since Antony's birth, we've barely been able to settle in to a routine! Silvia's sisters stayed around for a couple weeks to help out. We did our bast just to keep things flowing with ministry and a new lifestyle adapted to a baby in the house. In November, we made a trip down to Curitiba to be "padrinhos" in a friend's wedding (that's like special guests of honor, or official witnesses to the ceremony). We also dedicated some special time to strengthening relationships with various families and friends of Silvia from her college days.
A couple weeks ago, my mom was able to come down and visit. I hadn't seen her since March of 2011, so we were due a bit of catching up. And of course the principal attraction for her being some dedicated time with her first grandson! She just headed back home yesterday and now we have a few days to recuperate until my dad shows up for 10 days!
